WILL TOMORROW’S LEADERS COME FROM PETERSBURG?

We think so. And we believe God is calling us to prepare them to Learn to Lead.

A central part of the Petersburg community for more than 140 years, St. Joseph Catholic School is Virginia’s oldest Catholic school, providing a rigorous academic curriculum rooted in the Catholic faith.

In recent years, the school community continues to grow, now serving more than 150 students from junior kindergarten to 8th grade. Today, students receive a Christ-centered education that underpins a core curriculum of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. With one of the highest educational attainment levels in the region, St. Joseph is proud to boast 100% acceptance rate to governor schools.

We need your help to prepare a new generation of students to

LEARN TO LEAD.

St. Joseph Catholic School is excited to further our campaign efforts within the $30 million Learn to Lead campaign initiated by Bishop Barry Knestout that will strengthen and expand the mission of Catholic Schools throughout the Diocese of Richmond.

Our goal for the five-year campaign is to raise a total of $5 million to fund scholarships for our families and improve our campus in important ways. Additionally, we will begin raising $10 million in endowment funding over the next 20 years.

 $3 MILLION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

ENSURING DESERVING CHILDREN HAVE ACCESS TO A SAINT JOSEPH EDUCATION

There continues to be a significant gap between what families can afford and the cost to educate each student - which needs to be made up by scholarships and other financial support. Our goal is to raise $600,000 per year over the next five years in support of this critical mission. St. Joseph School is committed to providing a high-quality Catholic education to all our students, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Currently, St. Joseph Catholic School can raise up to $455,000 per year through the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Educational Improvement Scholarship Tax Credit (EISTC) program. The program allows donors at every income level to make contributions to schools while receiving a 65% state tax credit, with the remaining 35% also eligible to be claimed as a charitable deduction.

 $2 MILLION INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE

BUILDING UPON SAINT JOSEPH’S SUCCESS

Our two oldest buildings on campus are now more than 100 years old.  A number of renovations have been made to create a first-class environment for our students. The campaign will help us pay the $1 million needed for that essential work already completed.

Additional work is needed in our gym, cafeteria, and auditorium, as well as painting the hallways and stairwells. The proposed modernization of these spaces will cost $500,000.

By investing an additional $500,000 in the renovation of our unused convent, we can serve more students and gain greater financial stability. Renovating the convent will provide new modern classroom space for our students and would allow the school to continue to increase enrollment while maintaining small class sizes. Increasing enrollment will allow St. Joseph School to create a more sustainable and financially secure future, while providing a modern space that continues to meet the needs of our growing student body.

 $10 MILLION FOR ENDOWMENT

STRENGTHENING SAINT JOSEPH’S FOUNDATION FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS

As the St. Joseph School community continues to grow its enrollment and look towards the future, we are focused on long term planning and financial sustainability. That is why we have set a bold goal to build the school endowment to $10 million over the next 20 years. This will create a stable financial foundation for our school to invest in our students, families, and facilities while creating the flexibility to address the unexpected needs that may arise in the future.
